Water-Smart Landscaping

Landscape irrigation accounts for the majority of all water use in the High Desert, and thus provides the greatest opportunity to conserve water. One of the best ways is to transform high water using landscapes, such as lawns, into water-saving gardens that can be as attractive or even more attractive than lawns. You can do this by planting native plants that thrive in the desert environment, while still providing color and beauty to your landscape.

NEW! Landscaping Prototypes

In cooperation with Joshua Basin Water District and U.S. Department of the Interior, AWAC has developed these six, prototypical residential landscape plans, with plant palettes and irrigation plans for High Desert appropriate landscapes. These can be used by an average homeowner who wants to improve their landscape water efficiency in any High Desert environment.
